Welcome to the Hungate-Hawk Makers Page

We realized that we were both ‘makers’. We are interested in not only the product but, also, in the process of creating beautiful one-of-a-kind objects. We are not limited by a specific genre of art. We build a wide variety of objects from wood to metal to fine art to fibers.

I discovered my love for working with metal and objects from nature, celebrating the sacred gifts that nature bestows on humanity from an early age. I am an avid collector of wonderful, often overlooked objects, which seem to make their way into my many art forms. I have taught for 25 years in inner city schools. I paint, metalsmith, teach, and have never met an art form that I didn’t enjoy experimenting with. I have dabbled in stained glass, textiles, beading, and basketry, along with further explorations into the art forms shown on this site. Please enjoy looking at my work and contact me with questions or interest in purchasing/commissioning pieces at bchungate@gmail.com

Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, I have always appreciated wood; how it can be used for so many things, from cooking and heating to creating furniture and bowls. When I approach creating a piece, I try to keep in mind what the grain of the wood will look like when finished and use that grain in the design as one of the focal elements. I’m fascinated with how wood changes as I work it and how it glows once that last coat of finish is applied. The piece takes on a personality of its own. We are very interested in creating pieces specifically for you. Use the examples in the galleries to guide you. If you do not see something currently in stock, please commission a unique piece, or order a piece similar to one in the gallery. If this sounds intriguing, please contact us directly
